Cardiff Palm Court Orchestra

Michael Bell – Conductor

Sunday 3rd September

Cardiff Palm Court Orchestra, a fifteen piece ensemble, performs a repertoire based on light music, popular classics, themes from the heyday of the wireless and selections from operettas and stage musicals.

Cardiff Palm Court Orchestra, has performed each year at the Dinas Powys Festival since 2011 and is delighted to be making its debut at the wonderful setting of Penarth Pier Pavilion.

Today’s concert features selections from The Sound of Music and The Pirates of Penzance; Country Gardens and the Elizabethan Serenade; The Entertainer by Scot Joplin and a selection of popular pieces by Leroy Anderson; fondly remembered radio themes for Housewife’s Choice and Children’s Favourites and a selection of sing along Music Hall Songs such as I Do Like To Be Beside the Seaside, Lady of Laguna and It’s A Long Way to Tipperary.

A great afternoon’s entertainment for the whole family.

Michael Bell was born in Neath and has been the conductor of Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra since the orchestra was formed thirty-five years ago in 1982. Since 2010 Michael has been conductor of the Brecknock Sinfonia in its concert series at Brecon Cathedral, and in June 2017 conducted the summer concert of the Abergavenny Symphony Orchestra.

Cardiff Palm Court Orchestra gives Michael the chance to indulge in his love of light music.
