The Waverley visits Penarth again this summer.
Built on the Clyde in 1947 - to replace the original Waverley that sunk off Dunkirk in 1940, the Waverley was originally built to sail only between Craigendorran & Arrochar in West Scotland. It is amazing to think that she now sails right round Britain offering regular trips on the Clyde, the Thames, South Coast of England and the Bristol Channel with other calls at various ports & piers throughout the UK, including our own Penarth Pier.
The crowds gathered along the pier as Penarth had it's first visit of the summer this week, and we can now look forward to seeing the equally stunning Balmoral in this, Her Jubilee year. For further information on the Balmoral, click here. You can see the first visit on the 17th July, and we will shortly have a full summer timetable available to view.
The National Piers Society met at the Washing Gallery, Penarth this month. Full details of the meeting will be available shortly.
17th April 2009
The campaign to re-launch the new bid began on 17th April, when politicians from all parties met to see a range of marketing materials to raise community awareness throughout the Vale of Glamorgan.
Guests included the AM for Cardiff South, Lorraine Barrett, the Minister for Education, Jane Hutt, Chris Franks AM, the Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Gordon Kemp, Councillor Chris Williams, and many other Vale of Glamorgan Council and Penarth town council representatives.
The event was a great success, with a presentation of the new bid for 2009 well received with positive response all round.
