The Pavilion Christmas Cinema Menu

Nov 25, 2016

This Christmas we’re serving up a menu of films that should please everyone’s palate. Tickets on sale now

Cynical Starters

Your pick of films with questionable Christmas pedigrees. Is is even the season? Think less classic prawn cocktail and more olives and hummus. Deliciously tenuous. Dig in, Ebenezer.

Perhaps the jewel in director Terry Gilliam’s cinematic crown, Brazil is an Orwellian satire about a bureaucrat in a retro-future world who tries to correct an administrative error and becomes an enemy of the state. Even Santa himself makes an appearance in this surreal, chillingly hilarious classic.

Main Course

Tuck into the classics. Your staples. The cinematic equivalent of pigs in blankets for those of you who start wrapping presents in October. Wholesome, hearty stuff sure to leave you full and satisfied. Christmas is served.
It’s a Wonderful Life
In this timeless, quintessential Christmas film, an angel helps a compassionate but despairingly frustrated businessman by showing what life would have been like if he never existed. One ofthe most critically acclaimed films ever made, Christmas is simply incomplete without it.
Holiday Inn
Another undeniable Christmas classic set in an inn which is only open on holidays, where a crooner and a hoofer vie for the affections of a beautiful up-and-coming performer. This is the film which launched the hit, ‘White Christmas’.
The Polar Express
Tom Hanks and director Robert Zemeckis (“Forrest Gump”; “Cast Away”) reunite for “Polar Express,” an inspiring adventure based on the beloved children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg. When a doubting young boy takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery that shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe.

Bring on the guilty pleasures. This is your melt in the middle pud drowned in double cream. These films may not have won any awards but they’ve won your holly-shaped heart. Indulgent and shamefully decadent but let’s leave better judgement for the New Year, shall we? It’s Christmas after all.

After inadvertently wreaking havoc on the elf community due to his ungainly size, a man raised as an elf at the North Pole is sent to the U.S. in search of his true identity.

Love Actually
Follows the lives of eight very different couples in dealing with their love lives in various loosely interrelated tales all set during a frantic month before Christmas in London, England.

The Santa Clause
When a man inadvertently kills Santa on Christmas Eve, he finds himself magically recruited to take his place.
